The ghost of Christmas past.

I love old movies, especially old Christmas movies like "A Christmas in Connecticut." However, I have never been a fan of "It's A Wonderful Life". It all goes back to Christmas 1989. I was a sophomore in high school and everyone, including my parents, my aunt, my sister and most of my friends, had a nasty cold.

Everyone, except me.

It was like having Christmas in a pest house. Everyone was sick and anyone who wasn't refused to come over to celebrate.

After a sniffling round of opening presents, everyone went back to bed and I spent Christmas watching TV. "It's a Wonderful Life" was on all day on almost every channel. I watched the movie and wondered afterwards what I was missing. I have to admit I also feel that way about "A Christmas Story" but that is another blog entry. It wasn't a high school girl's disregard for the past that caused my dislike. I'd been an avid old movie fan since childhood thanks to the Tom Hatten Saturday Afternoon Movie show on channel 5.

Perhaps one of these days, when the memory of the most boring Christmas ever is finally a very, very, very dim one, I will try watching it again. In the meantime, I think I'll enjoy a little "Charlie Brown Christmas" and "Miracle on 34th Street".

Feel free to agree or disagree.

I like Charlie Brown, too.

I have to admit that I haven't watched TV in a few years now and don't really miss it.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of old movies. I love The Philadelphia Story, Gone with the Wind etc - though I have never seen Christmas in Connecticut

Do you know I've never seen It's a Wonderful Life???? I don't know how I managed to escape that but 'tis true.

Now of course there is another wonderful movie to see, well series more like - North and South *huge grin*. I wouldn't exactly call it a Christmas movie - but you could watch it over Christmas and it could become like a Christmas movie. And since I see you like Pride & Prejudice......

And thumbs up for Enya!! She's my favourite too!! (I noticed that on your profile :)

I love Enya! I even had the good fortune to meet her once though the only thing I had for her to autograph was a page from my Dayrunner. It's now framed in my office.

I put North and South on my Netflix list so I should have it to watch over Christmas :-)

You met her?!?!?! *whimper* I don't know if she tours or not and if she does if she will ever come to Canada and my little neck of the woods - but I do so hope so!! Another really good singer who in different but in the same kind of genre is Loreena McKennit. Do you know her music at all? I've seen her a couple of times now. She also has a great voice.
And I am so looking forward to your thoughts on N&S :)

I like Loreena McKennit and I have two of her albums. She is great. Also, Celtic Woman is a great CD set. PBS airs a lot of their concerts.

I have never watched "A Wonderful Life" either. I put it on my queue, too. I liked "Elf" a lot as a holiday movie.
