Keep Calm and Carry On

I spent last week working like a fiend to meet a deadline for yesterday. Now that it's done, all I have the energy for is watching British period pieces. I started the new Upstairs Downstairs last night. I watched two episodes and I'm not sure I'll watch anymore. I felt like numerous plotlines were lifted from Downton Abbey and then not done nearly as well. I also tried Call the Midwife but found it way too depressing. How many scenes of women screaming as she gives birth in squalor can a person watch? However, the series is based on  Call the Midwife: A Memoir of Birth, Joy and Hard Times by Jennifer Worth, so I will probably read it. I love books like that. It makes me appreciate modern medicine.

The preview for Little Dorrit was on the Upstairs Downstairs DVD. As soon as I saw that Matthew MacFadyen is in it, I practically knocked people out of my way to get to the computer and add it to my Netflix list. I'll watch anything he's in, including the awful Three Musketeers.

So, what have you been watching lately? If you have any other great period piece British dramas to recommend, I'd love to hear them.

I did look at Upstairs Downstairs on Netflix the other day but nothing much happened so I lost interest (I had watched it as a kid in the UK in the seventies anyway). I watched Series 1 of Downton and now they have series 3 up on Netflix but I haven't seen series 2 so what am I going to do??? Certainly not subscribe to Cable!!

I'm lovin the dog in the top hat. Check out my latest post on dogs who blog! www.cocktailsatnaptime.blogspot.com

I had the same issue with season 2 of Downton. Had to add DVD service to Netflix so I could watch it on DVD.
