With every fictional work, we are given a glimpse into one usually small slice of the central characters lives. Having just finished “Lady’s Wager”, my lingering thoughts are those characteristic of completing every good work, I care enough about Charlotte and Edward to want to know what becomes of them following the last page. The good writers present their characters in an eminently believable manner, the better writers make them come alive to the degree that we feel we are starting to know them, Georgie Lee has taken us the next step, to empathy.
I was caught up quickly, enjoying the use of subtle humor to establish my bond with the characters. The twists and turns of the story kept my attention as I followed through towards the ever inevitable conclusion, appreciating how the story seemed to be a natural evolution of the protagonists being set out before us. Critical to keeping my attention was the degree to which the inhabitants of this fictional microcosm are believable as people, subtle layers of personality and depth woven into the fabric of the story.
I am eagerly awaiting the next work from Georgie Lee.

Congrats! Not my usual genre, but who knows? I'll spread the word to some more folks closer to the usual demographic. :)
