Today, I'm welcoming fellow writer Ella Quinn to the blog. Her Regency novel, THE SECRET LIFE OF MISS ANNA MARSH is coming out this November. She was gracious enough to stop by today to tell us about herself and to share with a little sneak peak from the story.
Welcome Ella!!!
1.
When
did you start writing?
Just
over two years ago. I’d had a feeling for a while that I wanted to write
something, I wrote poetry in high school, I just didn’t know what I wanted to
write, until I read an author interview where the author said, write what you
read. After that, it all started coming together.
2.
Tell
us about your latest book.
The Secret Life of Miss Anna Marsh, book #2 in The Marriage Game,
is about a couple who have known each other all her life. Individually, they
always thought they’d marry, then a series of incidents occurred which made
that much less likely. After Anna decides she can’t marry Rutherford after all,
he decides he’ll do anything to make her his.
3. What inspired the story?
Both characters are introduced in my debut novel, The Seduction of Lady Phoebe, and their story was interesting, but it wasn’t until after I’d written the third book in the series that they decided to talk to me.
4. When one of my writing
friends or I are stuck in a story, we suggest that something in the story get
burned down in order to get the plot unstuck. Do you have any interesting or
drastic tricks that you use to get a stalled story moving?
It’s not a plan, but
usually an unexpected event takes place. It could be another character showing
up or doing something no one was thought they’d do, or something like that. My
novels generally have at least a couple of plot lines.
5. What’s the weirdest
research reference you’ve ever used?
LOL, probably the 1812
dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, and the Big Book of Filth. I also read some
very old erotica. But quite frankly, that’s not uncommon in my genre.
6. What’s the strangest or
most interesting/gross/startling fact you’ve uncovered in your research?
In the book I just sent
to beta readers, I had to study the manumission laws in the West Indies. I was
actually surprised to discover that the British, who’d already outlawed the
slave trade, were the most liberal when it came to sheltering escaped slaves.
My muse, who is much smarter than I, told me, but I had to do the research and
prove it to myself. Other things involve ice and chocolate.
7. What is your proudest
author moment?
Probably getting a
cover quote from Grace Burrowes for the Seduction of Lady Phoebe.
8. What is your most cringeworthy
author moment?
I haven’t had it yet,
but don’t worry, Nationals are coming up so I’m sure to do something.
9. And finally, who do you
think is the hottest actor in any Regency film or TV role?
Colin Firth

BOOK BLURB:
THE
SECRET LIFE OF MISS ANNA MARSH ~ On pre-order now. Releases November 17, 2013
“Let yourself be seduced by this
sexy mix of spies, smugglers, and happily ever afters.” —Sally MacKenzie
Since she was a young girl, Anna
Marsh has dreamed of Sebastian, Baron Rutherford asking for her hand in marriage.
But that was in another life when her brother Harry was alive, before she vowed
to secretly continue the work he valiantly died for. Now as Sebastian finally
courts Anna, she must thwart his advances. Were he to discover her secret, he
would never deem her a suitable wife…
Sebastian has always known Anna
would become his wife someday. He expects few obstacles, but when she dissuades
him at every turn he soon realizes there is much more to this intriguing woman.
Somehow he must prove to her that they are meant to be together. But first he
must unravel the seductive mystery that is Miss Anna Marsh…
Excerpt from THE SECRET LIFE OF MISS ANNA MARSH
by Ella Quinn
Anna
reached the morning room door and stopped when she heard Marcus ask how
Sebastian felt about her. Mama always said one should never eavesdrop, but this
was too tempting not to. Then he spoke, and Anna wished she’d not given in to
the lure. If Sebastian expected her to be comfortable and take her lead from
him, he didn’t know her at all. If that was what he wanted in a wife, it was
not she. Even if she “came around,” she wouldn’t be what he wanted, and did she
really wish to marry him at all? When had he become so stodgy?
She’d
never even thought of marrying anyone but Sebastian. Her head swam for a moment
as the reality of what he’d said struck her. He’d never be her husband. The
dream she’d had since childhood of her future shattered like thin ice. She
rapidly blinked back the tears pricking her eyes. She’d never felt so lost.

Wonderful interview!!! You're an inspiration and I wish you all the greatest success with your series!!!
I did, Daryl!!
We do, Kathy!! But it's all in our heads!!!
An excellent book and a must read! And I absolutely agree with your choice of Colin Firth. Just like Connery is the only Bond, Firth is the only Darcy. :)
Thank you so much, Jenna!!

Wonderful interview. I look forward to checking out Ella's work. And I couldn't agree more about Colin Firth. :)
You will keep this post up if you have any respect for our service men and women who have been the literal “victims” of Marion Browning-Baker (or “Ella Quinn” now) when she was a lawyer. If it is all about the political correctness of your blog and keeping everything nice and cutesy, then take it down. However, the financial damage whish she created for military families for over 15 years does not go away with the removed post. In other words, the facts will ALWAYS remain. Just Google “Marion Browning-Baker” and see for yourself. (From a concerned veteran)
So Marion Browning-Baker or “Ella Quinn” as you call yourself today - you can run from your criminal history but you cannot hide. You DID NOT go to the Virgin Islands “to retire, write romance books, and live in paradise” despite what you try to tell your readership. And there was certainly nothing “fortuitous” about this move to the tax hide-out Virgin Islands either as you claim in your author interviews. You fled the country of Germany in less than 60 days after they charged you with federal tax evasion where you evaded taxes for no less than 15 years as a lawyer operating a business on German soil. How smart was that when you bragged about it to one of your clients which you then ripped off for over $50,000 in legal fees?
Now you have a totally new identity. There is no lawyer reference in your bio anywhere despite that you spent most of your adult life as a lawyer. In fact, you even removed your law degree from Campbell University in NC and are now calling it a master’s degree in “Political Science and Government” on LinkedIn. But the reality is that you were a totally unethical lawyer who stole money from EVERY ONE of your military clients in Europe from 1995 (which was after the US Army kicked you out as a JAG lawyer) and until your Georgia State Bar disbarment on April 15, 2013 which is shown on their website.
As far as we are concerned, you have an active network now of at least 75 ex-clients and you OWE THEM a lot of money. We have legal counsel and there is a class-action lawsuit in the making. So “Ella” or whatever person you are playing today, do not believe that this is over and we will see you in court as who you really are: disbarred lawyer, tax fugitive, and criminal Marion Browning-Baker.
